2018
Founded
Luminary Health is founded by Dr. Daniel Cottam and Mr. Vincent Zeringue under the name Bariatric Surgery Affiliates “BSA” with a mission to connect patients with weight loss surgeons under a fixed and bundled reimbursement model.
2019
Research Conducted
BSA partners with renowned research firm Milliman to study the average reimbursement rate for various surgical services across the United States. As a result, BSA develops market-specific, fixed, and bundled reimbursement rates for key geographies across medical specialties.
2020
First Partnership
BSA enters into its first national partnership to facilitate surgical care. At the same time, BSA forms strategic partnerships with several bariatric and general surgeons throughout the country. BSA refers its first patient to an in-network surgeon in 2020.
2021-2022
National Expansion
BSA rapidly expands its national footprint of credentialed surgeons, facilities, and other healthcare partners. BSA also expands and improves its ability to serve national patient aggregators, TPAs, and convener partners.
2023
Luminary Rebrand
BSA rebrands to be called Luminary Health with a renewed determination to expand beyond bariatric weight loss surgery. The company credentials orthopedic, general, gastro, and many other specialty surgeons. Luminary develops its relationships with TPAs and convener partners to expand beyond bariatric weight loss surgery as well.
2024
Network Leadership
Luminary Health grows to a nation-wide network of surgeons across various surgical categories. The company becomes the industry leader in placing patient referrals with surgeons for care under a bundled reimbursement model.
2025
Portal Launch
Luminary Health launches the Luminary Health Portal to manage the placement and progress of thousands of surgical patients across the country. Luminary continues to facilitate patient placement and claim reimbursement across the United States.

Industry Leader

Our Leadership Team

Daniel Cottam, M.D.
Founder & Chief Medical Officer of Bariatric & General Surgery
Dr. Daniel Cottam, MD is a renowned bariatric and general surgeon at the Bariatric Medicine Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is the first surgeon in the United States to perform the single anastomosis loop duodenal switch surgery. Currently, he serves as a master consultant for Medtronic and teaches, lectures, and proctors surgeons from all over the world. Dr. Cottam has been recognized as a Center of Excellence Surgeon since 2005. Dr. Daniel Cottam is the co-founder and the Chief Medical Officer of Bariatric and General Surgery for Luminary Health.
Vincent Zeringue
Founder & Chief Development Officer
Vincent Zeringue has more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry. He is a nationally recognized expert on value-based care and surgical bundle offerings. His professional experience includes medical device sales, hospital administration, and healthcare private equity. More recently, Mr. Zeringue worked as an expert consultant, providing consulting services to surgical practices and ambulatory surgery centers all over the United States. Vincent Zeringue is the co-founder and Chief Development Officer at Luminary Health.
Jeff Larsen
Chief Executive Officer
Jeff Larsen is a serial entrepreneur, investor, and business executive. Prior to joining Luminary Health, Jeff co-founded and ran one of the nation's largest for-profit companies to provide COVID-19 testing services during the global health pandemic. Earlier in his career, Jeff worked as a Vice President at SoftBank Group International and a consultant at McKinsey & Company. Jeff Larsen currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Luminary Health.
Justin Hohl, M.D.
Chief Medical Officer of Orthopedic & Spine Surgery
Dr. Justin Hohl, MD is a nationally recognized orthopedic spine surgeon. During his illustrative career, Dr. Hohl has performed thousands of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine surgeries, including procedures to address degenerative (arthritic) conditions, trauma, tumors, and scoliosis. He has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters which address various clinical and surgical conditions of the spine. Dr. Justin Hohl is the Chief Medical Officer of Spine and Orthopedic Surgery for Luminary Health.
